About the area
Around the Bay from the Finger Wharf
Woolloomooloo grew up around one of Sydney's working docks, and its identity is still tied to the water. The Finger Wharf, built between 1910 and 1913 on the site of the city's first fish market, is now home to apartments, a hotel and waterfront restaurants, while Garden Island next door remains a working Royal Australian Navy base.
Just out the front of the wharf sits Harry's Cafe de Wheels, the pie cart Harry "Tiger" Edwards set up near the dockyard gates in the late 1930s, still serving its famous Tiger Pie to a steady stream of locals, sailors and the odd celebrity.
From the Finger Wharf, the foreshore path runs directly around the marina to Rushcutters Bay Park, roughly 1.1km (straight-line).
